A Roaring Welcome to a New Year of Service: Embracing Our Legacy, Forging Our Future!

It is with immense pride and an invigorated spirit that I welcome you to a new Lions year! This year, I envision not just success, but a transformative journey for each of us—individually and as clubs—a journey where our collective impact resonates deeply within our communities.

What does success truly look like for your club? The answer, I believe, lies within the heart of your unique service and aspirations. For some, it might be the joy of welcoming new members, infusing our ranks with fresh perspectives and boundless energy. For others, it could be the profound satisfaction of completing a challenging service project, witnessing firsthand the positive change we ignite. Whatever your vision of success, my deepest hope is that you reach for it with unwavering determination, and that next year, we gather to celebrate every single accomplishment as a united district.

Nurturing Our Pride: A New Vision for Mentorship

To empower each of you on this journey, we are introducing some vital strategies this year. My personal conviction lies in the power of mentorship for every Lion, especially our newest members. We know that the initial year can be a crucial time for new Lions, and we want to ensure they feel supported, connected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

This year, we are thrilled to launch a two-phase mentoring program designed to nurture and retain our newest members. We are asking every club, when inducting a new member, to not only assign a sponsor but also to pair them with a personable and knowledgeable mentor. This mentor will be a guiding light, helping our new Lions navigate their journey, discover their strengths, and fully embrace the incredible spirit of Lions. To support this vital initiative, a mentor certificate will be included in every new member’s kit, and our dedicated Cabinet Secretary Judith will be sending a digital copy, along with a comprehensive explanation and even suggested wording for the ceremony. I truly believe that every club’s participation in this program will be a cornerstone of our success, and I personally extend my heartfelt appreciation in advance for your commitment. More details on the second phase of this exciting program will be released shortly.

Respecting Our Past, Securing Our Future: A Call to Action

My motto for this year encapsulates our shared path forward: Respecting the past – Securing our future. Our rich history and cherished traditions are the bedrock upon which the Lions organization was built, and we honor that profound legacy. Yet, I urge you to look around your communities. Think about the incredible pace of change you’ve witnessed. Have we, as Lions, kept pace? Are our traditions, while valuable, truly resonating and relevant in this ever-evolving world?

These are not questions to shy away from, but rather opportunities for growth and introspection. Should we explore new avenues to attract a younger, more diverse membership, ensuring our vibrancy for generations to come? What truly is our Lions legacy, and how can we ensure it not only endures but flourishes for decades to come? These are vital questions that many clubs are asking, and with our aging membership, there’s a collective understanding across our organization that we must actively shape a sustainable future.

We don’t simply need new members for the sake of numbers; we need to grow our membership to amplify our impact and truly embody our core mission: “Where there is the need, there is a Lion.” I’ve heard from many of you during my club visits that our aging membership sometimes makes it harder, and at times even impossible, to provide the same level of service we once did. This is a challenge we will face together. If your club needs any assistance in strengthening its membership and securing its enduring legacy, please do not hesitate to connect with our dedicated District Membership Coordinator, Steve Wieczorek.

Both are eager and willing to help your club not only overcome challenges but to thrive and serve for many years to come!

Together, my fellow Lions, let us embark on a year of innovation, growth, and unparalleled service. Let us honour our past by boldly shaping our future.

Yours in Service,
